Have your say on changes at Porchester Spa

Introduction

As part of the refurbishment of the Porchester Spa, Everyone Active and Westminster City Council are consulting on a variety of potential changes for the site. These changes will seek to enhance the Spa, including increasing accessibility and potentially providing a number of service improvements.

There is an exhibition at Porchester Spa and a series of public meetings.

You can also take part in the consultation by completing this survey.

Proposed changes at Porchester Spa

  • Entrance: In order to accommodate the change in treatment room layout we are proposing to change the access to use the Porchester Hall entrance in order to gain access to a new reception and to allow use of the treatment areas regardless of the session running in the spa. This change will also improve the accessibility for those with mobility issues (who will be able to access the spa via the library lift).
  • New Changing rooms: It is proposed to create 2 new changing rooms by utilising the existing wet treatment room along with the existing shower vanity area. New showers, hairdryers and lockers will be provided and the existing lockers will be relocated from relaxation area to the new changing rooms.
  • Spa facility changes: It is proposed to relocate the Sauna for greater inclusivity and to improve the access to all facilities.
  • Treatments: Four new treatment rooms will be created including one wet treatment room. A new nail bar will be introduced off the new reception area.
  • Relaxation Area: It is proposed to remove the lockers from the lounge and relocate them in the new change rooms. New furniture will be installed and the area will be reorganised to provide a more comfortable relaxation area.
  • Spa Café Proposals: include an enhancement of the menu to include healthy eating options and the introduction of a new table service within the dining area.
  • Heating and ventilation: It is proposed to replace the dated mechanical and electrical equipment serving the sauna, steam and hot rooms to ensure more reliable and consistent temperatures throughout the spa and increased environmental efficiency.
  • Clothing: It’s proposed to introduce a ‘Cover up’ policy in the relaxation area to allow for the new dining service. Towels, robes and slippers will be offered for all spa users and it’s proposed to introduce a swim wear policy within the thermal area to encourage more participation of these health.

Accessibility and Inclusivity

These alterations will introduce access to the basement level via the lift. This will enable wheelchair access to the basement which is not currently possible.

Proposed Timetable Amendments

It is proposed to introduce additional mixed sessions to encourage more use of the facilities. The proposed changes to the timetable are as follows:

Monday: Male Session running 10am-6pm, introduction of the mixed session 6pm-10pm

Tuesday: Female sessions running 10am-6pm, introduction of the mixed session 6pm-10pm

Saturday: closing at 8pm instead of 10pm

Sunday: Mixed all day 10-8pm instead of female only 10am-4pm then mixed 4pm-10pm

All other sessions remain the same as per the current schedule.

It is also proposed to close the Spa at 8pm during weekends, in line with closure times for the rest of the centre.

Subject to consultation feedback, it is anticipated that works will commence in April and the Spa will re-open to the public in August 2017.
